Welcome to Latin Dance Teacher Academy + Overview
COURSE VOCAB:
.) Latin Dance- Partner Social Dances including: Bachata, Bachata Sensual, Brazilian Zouk, Zouk-Lambada, Salsa, Salsa on 1, Mambo, Kizomba. While all of these partner dances may not technically be latin-based, I have still included the styles as this methodology still works and many festivals and congresses will have many of the styles listed available at the same events!
.) Demo- Short for demonstration. This is the video taken at the end of a class or workshop to demonstrate the combination that was taught to give the students or attendees a chance to record.
.) Teaching Assistant- A volunteer dancer to assist or help the teacher for a designated amount of time and for a specific reason. This is usually a student of the teacher's who is of a lesser skill level that exchanges their assistance for a discount on private lessons etc. NOT to be confused from an established dance partner.
.) A Dance Partner- This is a dancer/ teacher who equally co-teaches at classes and/or events, is the same or around the same skill level, usually works together for longer-terms, and operates together as a single unit.
.) Organizer- A person heavily involved in the latin dance world who works behind the scenes to create, develop, and bring together all of the details of a dance event.
.) Dance Class- Usually a 1 hour weekly class taught to local dancers and students. There is usually a 1-2 hour dance social after class.
.) Dance Workshop- A specialized dance class with in depth material on a particular dance style subject. Usually 1 day for 2 hours. It tends to be available for the local community and potentially surrounding cities.
.) Dance Weekender- Specialized dance classes theory and materials over the span of 2 days. Usually includes 2 hours of class per day with social dance parties at the end of the evening each night. Outside teachers are usually brought in to a local scene to teach the weekender.
.) Dance Congresses + Festivals- 3-4 Day Large Scale Events. Usually begin with a Thursday evening social dance pre-party. Many teachers are brought in to the event from around the globe. Usually 8 hours per day of different available classes from many different teachers with different focuses and specialties. There is a social dance party at the end of every day that is usually themed.
